Mickey Lynn

Hi, I am Mickey and I make pretty stuff. I am a jewelry designer based in Atlanta, Georgia. I have a mean case of wanderlust which I satisfy by searching the globe for seasonal inspiration and sourcing all natural stones for my designs. I believe in creating beauty, following dreams, and that inspiration is all around us.

New Beginnings.

One of the many things I love about my work as a jewelry designer is the opportunity to give back. Whether it’s gifting jewelry that can be auctioned off for a good cause or simply spreading awareness through social media and marketing channels, I love the opportunity to give back.

In years past, we have always donated to Partnership Against Domestic Violence, one of the oldest and largest non- profit Domestic Violence organizations in the south. This year we put our heads together on how we could get involved even more with this important cause.  What we came up with was this: The New Beginnings Bracelet

I came up with a simple design of brass and crystal beads strung on purple (the color of domestic violence awareness) silk cord. We’re selling these bracelets on our website throughout January for $20.00 and giving all of the proceeds to support Partnership Against Domestic Violence, or PADV.  Money raised from the sale of these bracelets goes to support shelters, hotlines, and prevention programs.

But the best part of the process was bringing these bracelets to the women and children at the shelter. We made a hundred of these bracelets so that every woman and child could have one.

Some of the biggest fans of the bracelets turned out to be the smallest residents of the shelter.

I know they all appreciated the gift, what I think they liked even more, was the time we spent with them.

The thing about giving back that is so beautiful is that you absolutely get back in return what you give.  I’d like to thank the women and children of PADV for reminding me that everyone deserves hope and new beginnings.

Words to remember. Thank you for your light!

Inspired?

We strive to live a life inspired! And throughout our jewelry design career, we have garnered so much of that inspiration from New York City.

image

We had a fun idea. Why not share some of that inspiration? Druzy is our signature medium and a stone said to strengthen the spirit. We created these little cards and tied them to the stones.

image

Then Seth & I headed to NYC to scatter druzy throughout the city.

image

We wanted to start a conversation about inspiration.

image

What gets you inspired?

image

How can we share inspiration?

image

And, most importantly, can you imagine what the world might be like if we all lived a little more inspired?

Watch what happens!

Kickasserole & Other Mickey Lynn Traditions

It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner! I’ve always been a big fan of Turkey Day since it’s a holiday which traditions revolve around friends, family and, well FOOD!

One of our Thanksgiving traditions here at the studio is to have our own Thanksgiving lunch! We plan for weeks and everyone brings a dish to share.  {Our production board turned into a make shift menu.}

Seeing as how we are all really into cooking … or at least eating good cooking … the Thanksgiving spread is bound to be delish!  But, some people make some bold claims about their dishes.

Kickasserole? Not gonna lie, it was pretty kick ass.

And we definitely like to think outside of the box when it comes to the menu. Who says Thanksgiving has to be all turkey and dressing. Does that say Hot & Sour soup?!

But whatever’s on the menu, the best part of this tradition is taking the time to sit down as a team for a meal.

Thanksgiving is all about gratitude, and I couldn’t be more grateful to work with the team I have!

Share Stories. Share Hope.

image

Every October I like to support Breast Cancer Awareness in some way. Last year it hit close to home for one of our team members, Candice. I’ll let her tell you the story. Read on to hear why we are partnering with Pink Ribbon Story Foundation.

xo,

Mickey Lynn

I remember the words of my best friend’s text like it was yesterday. It read: “It’s f***ing cancer.”

Lump. Chemotherapy. Mastectomy. Survival rate. All of these and more, used to be mere words. Terms heard on the news, and in passing. Then somehow, these horrible words became a part of our vernacular.

After the word cancer, everything takes on a new weight and dimension. Sometimes, entire definitions are rewritten.

Friendship. Strength. Life. Joy. Grace. Gratitude. All of these and more are words that have been redefined. They are louder, more important and they beg to be used more often.

image

That is why I am so happy to be able to partner with Pink Ribbon Story Foundation, an organization committed to documenting and sharing the stories of those affected by breast cancer. Through video, social media and mentoring, PRSF connects the newly diagnosed to survivors, offering knowledge and hope for the road ahead.

While my friend fought, her loved ones choked out the words that we are supposed to say, “I love you, everything will be all right.” But the women of PRSF told her their words and their stories. They gave her real hope that it could all be ok. They connected her to women who truly knew what she was going through, and later they gave her a forum to tell her own story of survival!

The shared narrative is so very important. I believe that sharing these stories also shares hope.

Love & Inspiration in NYC

image

(View from the Empire State Building- Our first trip to NYC together)

I’ve loved New York City since I was a little girl. Growing up in Alabama, New York seemed like another world. I’d see images of the NYC skyline and this feeling of excitement would spread over me.

In the years to come, I was able to visit New York from time to time with girlfriends or for work. But, I’ll never forget the first time Seth and I ventured to New York together. Watching this Midwest born and bred man walk around the streets in utter awe of the city struck something inside of me.  Seeing the city with Seth was like seeing it for the first time. I felt that childlike excitement again, but this time it was accompanied by a very adult sense of contentment.  Roaming the streets together, I realized that I never wanted to stop seeing the world through his eyes.

As our relationship grew, and later our jewelry business, we began visiting New York at least 3 to 4 times a year. From jewelry trade-shows, to buying stones, or just roaming around the city soaking up inspiration, New York City has become like a second home.  image

Always traveling, and seeking inspiration in new destinations, we wanted to create a line of jewelry that pays tribute to the mystery, beauty and excitement of our first destination: New York City.

I hope you’ll love our new fall line as much as we do!

The Creative Process

image

There have been a lot of late nights at the studio recently. We’ve been busy designing, making and pulling together all the creative elements for our new fall line. I couldn’t be happier to work as hard as I do, I adore the creative process!

image

A friend asked me recently, “What exactly is your process for designing a new line?” I couldn’t help but laugh at how difficult it was for me, a former systems engineer, to answer that question. Inspiration comes at me from so many different directions; it can be downright overwhelming at times.

image

I spend a lot of time in New York City, a place where inspiration is literally lurking around every street corner. I knew that for the Fall/Winter 2013 I wanted to create a line that conveyed NYC inspiration, and the feel of effortless, eclectic glamour.

image

I start by gathering my inspirations,  Pinterest is a wonderful tool!  I create boards on color, shape and overall feel.  I’m also always referencing Jewelry Concepts and Technology, it’s my jewelry making bible. I love to learn about and be inspired by the origins of jewelry design.

image

Then I begin the search for stones. It’s so exciting to see what the earth has made and figure out how you might be able to use it’s creations in your own designs.

 image

I’m excited to introduce new shapes and elements to the collection!  We are introducing a raw crystal quartz point, which offers this wonderful edgy, yet organic feel. And be on the lookout for a lot of triangles, a nod to my passion for geometric shapes and Art Deco design!

image

And of course, no creative process would be complete without a fabulous team to collaborate and bounce ideas off of. We couldn’t be more proud of the work we’ve done. Stay tuned! We’ll be sharing it with you soon!

Cheers!

Hitting the Hamptons

image

I was super excited and rather honored when Everything But Water asked us to be part of their exclusive designer trunk show series in The Hamptons. Being the travel junkies that we are, our immediate answer was: YES! So we packed our suitcases full of druzy jewelry and headed north.

image

Everything But Water has a gorgeous brand new store in East Hampton!

image

I love having the opportunity to style my pieces with other amazing designs. We focused on long gemstone layering necklaces, heishi necklaces, beaded druzy bracelets, and a dash of our new Roman glass collection.

image

And of course, this beauty, the signature druzy necklace!

image

After a successful trunk show, it was time to explore! Our friend Megan came down from NYC to join us for some shopping, paddle boarding, and wondering around gawking at beauty.

image

Obviously, we worked up an appetite for a good meal, or few.

J’adore The Hamptons!  We will be back again. Thanks to Everything But Water, and to all our loyal customers and fans for allowing us to mix business with pleasure!

Cheers!
